Our infamous Mack Flintstone was proudly on display at Sydney Truckfest, held on 21–22 March at the Hawkesbury Showground.
Sydney Truckfest is quickly becoming a standout event for the transport industry, bringing together truck enthusiasts, operators and industry professionals fromacross the country - making it the perfect place to showcase a true piece of Wearn history.
The Flintstone Truck, officially registered as FTK963, is a legendary part of Wearn’s story. Purchased by Wearn founder John Wearn in 1968, this classic Mack was finished in Mack green and powered by the robust ENDT675 Maxidyne engine, delivering 237 horsepower and 906 ft-lb of torque. Originally used to haul a float, the truck later towed various tippers before eventually returning to float duties, once again moving machinery - a reflection of its versatility across decades of operation.
Throughout its working life, the Flintstone faced many challenges, including famously swamping the punt at Wisemans Ferry. Local residents stepped in to help lighten theload, allowing it to continue - a moment that has since become part of its legend. The Wearn family also recalls early mornings when the Flintstone would start outside their home, its air-start engine rumbling to life and signalling the beginning of a long day. These routines, along with its performance on steep quarry roads, contributed to its reputation as a workhorse built to last.
Truck enthusiasts will appreciate the craftsmanship and engineering that allowed FTK963 to endure decades of heavy use. Over the years, the truck underwent numerous upgrades and replacements, including the engine and gearbox, all axles and diffs, and most components apart from the original chassis. Each modification reflects the hands-on skill and dedication of the Wearn team, while preserving the essence of the original Mack design.
Today, the Flintstone enjoys a well-earned retirement. While no longer part of day-to-day operations, it remains preserved as a living piece of history. Its massive frame, iconic Mack design and enduring engineering make it a standout for truck enthusiasts and a tangible reminder of Wearn’s early days - built on quality, resilience and hard work.
Its presence at events like Sydney Truckfest allows us to share that story with a wider audience and celebrate the journey that continues to shape our business today.
